Urban commons open up a transformative path for greater social, economic and environmental justice in our cities. They embody a model of active participation, democratic negotiation and shared care of and for urban resources. In order to thrive, urban commons need stable frameworks and clear agreements with both users and municipalities.
urbanize! welcomes you to an international good practice evening with approaches and models for financing, legal protection, cooperation between civil society and the municipality as well as organising and communicating commons: How can urban commons be created, what are the learnings from theory and practice? Which legal structures already exist and how do the agreements of public commons partnerships function in the everyday life of cities? What financing options exist and what is the role of the public sector? What do architectures that foster commoning look like and what are the needs of these democratic spaces? How must the governance of urban commons be structured, how organised, to keep them inclusive, open and lively? Potential answers to these questions we will discuss with Construct Lab/Berlin, Cooperative City/Budapest, Ministry of Space collective/Belgrade, L'asilo/Naples and Montag Stiftung Urbane Räume/Bonn.
