Time Matters!
Time Matters! is a roundtable discussion dedicated to exploring the role of time in facilitating just urban transformations – one that is inscribed in the everyday life practices (the present), captured and guided by schools of thought (the past), and conceived of and put into practice by plans and policies (the future).
Walking the way of ›Long Emergency‹, our societies are facing more hunger, sickness, violence, lack of habitable space, shorter proximities, and closure, thus rendering the life of all those powerless subjects around the globe ever more difficult (Greenfield, 2024). As echoes of global warming and climate disaster grow, various initiatives have assembled to practise collective survival, or, expressed more metaphorically, they took time in their hands. Following this opening premise, guests from diverse fields will explore urban temporalities and their impact on activism and planning for oppressed and marginalised groups. Together with the audience, we will examine Vienna’s local initiatives, recognise their time dimensions, forge connections, and envision a safe and survivable future.
